2.Download the transcript (below the video clip) and move it to a corner of your screen for note-taking (or print, if you prefer).
3. Watch the video (using password sent) and use the transcript to note moments where you see teachers learning in ways that might lead to improved practice.
4. Use the survey to submit your ideas about the learning moments; it will ask for transcript numbers and a brief explanation of the learning moment.
Video Background Information
This series of clips shows the progression of thinking in a Florida Lesson Study group. The teacher-led group consists of two third grade teachers and one fourth grade teacher. Initially, the group watches a video of an instructor guiding students through an exploratory paper-folding activity related to fractions. They reflect on how this hands-on learning might affect students’ understanding and retention of the topic, and critique the possibility of replicating this activity in their own classroom. In the next meeting, the group studies fraction curriculum, and discuss representing fractions in a linear model. The final clip shows the end of cycle reflection stage where, after implementing a similar paper-folding activity, the teachers reflect on how they believe it impacted student retention, and how it might influence their instruction in the future.
