Description
Three videos feature a third/fourth grade lesson designed to support students as they explore fractions in a linear measurement context. In each lesson, students share different strategies and engage in classroom discussions that surface:
- fractions are used to express an amount obtained as a result of equal partitioning and are used to express quantities less than 1
- a fraction can be considered as a collection of unit fractions
- fraction notation
- a fraction can also be put on a number line like whole numbers
- addition and subtraction can also be applied to fractions
A document outlining the background and research on the content and standards, unit/lesson goals, and unit/lesson plan accompanies the videos.
