Description

This video features a fourth grade lesson designed to support students as they explore adding fractions with unlike denominators (1/4 + 3/8). Students share different strategies and engage in a classroom discussion that surfaces the importance of using common denominators to find equivalent fractions. This work is part of a school-wide Lesson Study effort focused on building TTP classroom routines.

Additional video features the team’s mock-up lesson, post-lesson discussion commentary by Alan Schoenfeld and Akihiko Takahashi, and video of students sharing their journal work.

A document outlining the planning team’s research theme, background and research on the content and standards, unit/lesson goals, and unit/lesson plan accompanies the video.
